Your life is a sundance.

Appearance

Leonard is a brown, white, and black spotted steed. He has a blue handprint on his flank, and multiple circles are drawn on his body. His mane and tail are black, and he wears a blue saddle with golden details. His eyes also glow yellow and wears a black harness. He also has some black and white feathers tied around the base of his tail.

In the background of Leonard's card is a totem pole, an important monument to Pacific Northwest Nations.[1] However, Leonard has paint markings resembling those of Plains Indian horses, and he even mentions the 'sun dance', a sacred ceremony of self-sacrifice for the community practiced by Canadian and Plains Indians.[2] As such, Leonard's card can be seen as cultural appropriation as it does not accurately represent the Pacific Northwest or Plains Nations.[3]

Personality

Leonard enjoys life and sees everything as an enjoyment.

Magical Gift

Leonard's eyes glow yellow with their own kind of magic. He is also able to summon rain with his dancing.[4]

The Name Game

Leonard has also been named "Blue Ring". The artist stated that his name was a placeholder name for the horse while it was being designed, as the artists for early horse designs did not receive final names.[5]

The name Leonard means "strength of a lion" or "lion-hearted."[6]

Leonard's quote mentions the 'sun dance', a sacred ceremony practiced by Canadian and Plains Indians. During the ceremony, members pray for healing and blessings as dancers fast, pierce their skin, and offer physical and spiritual pain for the sake of their community. From 1882-1951, the Canadian Government attempted to suppress this practice. In 1993, Lakota, Dakota and Nakota Nations waged war on anyone who exploit and appropriate the sun dance, and in 2003, Cheyenne, Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota nations respectfully banned non-indigenous people from attending this sacred ceremony. [7] Given the sacred tradition of this ceremony, it can be viewed as inappropriate to mention it in a card's inspirational message.
