About the Cards

Collecting-flamebella.png

Bella Sara cards were produced from 2005-2017 and are organized in 'sets' or series that include dozens of horses with positive messages of self-affirmation, love, and acceptance. Depending on the series, each set can include common, rare, shiny, item, lenticular, and/or promo cards.

More info on each card type can be found on the Types of Cards page.

In North America and worldwide, Bella Sara cards were published under the label of Concept Card ApS until it was replaced by Bella Sara LLC.[1] Translations of Bella Sara were published by the following companies:

Asmodée - French & Dutch
Gedis- Italian
ROSMAN - Russian[2]

The cards were available over various releases in The United States, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Russia, The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain, England, Australia, and possibly even more.[3][4]

Gameplay

Cards produced from 2005 to "Treasures" in 2009 include an individual online code that could be redeemed on the Classic Bella Sara Website to unlock the virtual horse or item depicted on the card. Horses could be cared for in the user's stables and appear in select games on the site. Outside of online play, these cards also included playing symbols on the upper right of each card. These symbols could be used in simple card games such a Go Fish or other games designed by The Bella Sara Company.

Starting with "Royalty" in 2009, cards no longer had individual codes or playing symbols. Horses could only be unlocked online via Ticket Cards that were included in each booster pack and came in varying rarities: copper, silver, and gold.

Card Art

"Treasures" Jewel process by Jennifer L. Meyer

Bella Sara is best known for its stunning magical horse artwork created by dozens of professional artists throughout the years. 'The process begins with Conceptcard ' sending each artist a detailed description of the card they were to design such as horse appearance, pose, composition, etc. The artist then provided sketches until both parties were happy with the result concept. The final piece was then completed and sent to the company to be printed on thousands of cards. [5]

More info on each artist can be found on the Artists page.

Bella Sara Series

In 2006, Conceptcard licensed with Hidden City Entertainment of North America to distribute cards internationally, and the name of the series was changed from Bella to Bella Sara. In June 2011, the contract expired and Hidden City Entertainment closed. [7] Conceptcard signed a licensing contract with The Bella Sara Company, LLC of North America and continued to release cards until June, 2013, when The Bella Sara Company, LLC closed as well. [8]
