Respect yourself first. Then others will honor your strength.

Appearance

Abenaki is a reddish bay with a mane and tail pattern similar to that of a skunk's coat. They are an appaloosa with white haunches and a speckled body. Their front legs are black past the knee. They have a blue circle painted around their right eye, a blue sun on their right hip, and a blue pattern of symbols on their right shoulder, as well as two small bands above their front knees on both legs. [1]

Personality

Abenaki exudes an air of leadership and confidence. For this reason, many residents of North of North value their assistance and guidance.

Relationships

Skunk

Abenaki has a special connection with skunks and may even be seen accompanied by the spectral image of one.

Digital Content

Abenaki and their animal friend were accompanied by a digital story, called Skunk's Gift. The story was available to buy from the Bazaar Tent on the website.

The Name Game

"The Abenaki tribe which this horse is based on is located in the Northeastern US in the area of present-day Maine. Their name means "people of the dawn". The Abenaki lived in wigwams—temporary homes—while they relocated seasonally, but also built permanent longhouses in centralized villages. Their seasonal migrations included hunting, fishing, and growing a variety of crops, returning to their longhouses during the winter. The Abenaki constructed birch-bark canoes for water travel. This tribal group includes the Penobscot and the Androscoggin.

The Abenaki fought against the English on the side of the French during the Seven Years’ War from 1756 to 1763. After their defeat, many went north where they were welcomed by the French with gifts of land. Presently, there is a reserve in Saint Francis, Quebec."[2]
