"Native Lights"
The “Native Lights” Series is the 6th Bella Sara set first introduced in March 2008[1] and was an international release.[2]
Tom Grayson Colonnese, member of the Santee Sioux Nation and chair of the American Indian Studies department at the University of Washington, was consulted for the creation of this series and states that:
“Bella Sara Native Lights represents Native American stories, images and traditions in a responsible and sensitive manner."[3]
The Classic Bella Sara Website was updated with new Bellapedia articles detailing the history and culture of each tribe mentioned. Traditional Native American folklore could also be unlocked as storybooks at the bazaar throughout the year. [4]
Story
The Ultimate Sticker Collection details how the names of the Native Lights horses came to be. Many years ago, Bella and Sara traveled across the Auroborus to Earth and met a friendly group of people called "The People". "The People" had a deep respect and appreciation for their horses and environment, and Sara was deeply inspired by this and their stories of animals. When Sara returned to North of North, she named very special horses after the various tribes she encountered as a way to honor their culture.[5]
When each "Native Lights" horse was given a name based off of a tribe, an animal friend appeared at that horse's side and offered them guidance through life much like the animal guides of "The People".[5]
Appearance
"Native Lights" cards are purple cards with beads and feathers around the border and a dreamcatcher in the upper left corner. The series feature horses named after the many Native American tribes across North America.
In the North America, there is a total of 83 cards: 28 common cards, 17 rare cards, 10 energy cards, 17 shiny cards, and 11 promo cards. North American foil cards have a repeating rainbow "Firework" design along the card's background.[6]
Outside of North America, there is a total of 93 cards: 28 common, 27 rare cards, 10 energy cards, 27 shiny cards, and 1 promo card.[7] International foil cards have a rainbow "Flat" foil design along the card's background. German foil cards have a "Starburst" foil design.
