Winged unicorns are a combination of two types of horses: pegasi and unicorns. The two qualifications for this type of horse is they have to have a unicorn's horn, and they must have wings. Winged unicorns always have wings of some sort, whether they are feathered, magical, or otherwise.
The Name Game
Winged Unicorns are often mistakenly referred to as Alicorns. In fact, in mythology, alicorn referred to the material a unicorn or winged unicorn's horn was made out of. [1] The term was recently used in pop culture, most notably by the new My Little Pony series, which spread the incorrect term into popular consciousness. [2][3]
