The Name Game

“The tribe this steed is based on are the Laguna Pueblo in west-central New Mexico, USA. The name means “lagoon” in Spanish, due to the lake that exists near the reservation.

The Laguna Pueblo share cultural traits with the other Pueblo tribes, including building adobe villages. There is a strong bond between the Laguna Pueblo and the Acoma Pueblo.

The pueblo villages are some of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the United States. A mission church was built by the Spanish on the reservation, finished in 1699. Today the Laguna Pueblo’s population is around 4,000 persons. The discovery and mining of uranium on Laguna land has contributed to scholarship opportunities and the Laguna are generally very well educated.”[3][4]
