According to the artist, the original intent was to make Kelpie-Pooka completely black, but the color was lightened for print.[1]

Personality

Kelpie-Pooka loves to play jokes and tricks on friends, as long as they enjoy it to! They can often be found playing and swimming in the Fastalon River in Darkcomb Forest. [2]

Magical Gift

Kelpie-Pooka has a permanently white, ethereal glow that sparkles around them.[3]

The Name Game

Kelpie-Pooka's name is based on two separate creatures from Irish and Scottish folklore.

In Scottish folklore, Kelpies were water spirits that appeared as horses. They could shapeshift into human form and carried people into the water and drowned or devoured them.

In Irish folklore, Pookas were shapeshifters that appeared as black horses, goats, or rabbits but usually appear as horses. They are usually considered evil but sometimes portrayed as good.[4]

According to the artist, they see the horse as an evil horse. They also only planned on using one name, but when they submitted the combined name out of indecision to the company, Conceptcard chose to use both![1]
