How to Edit

From Bella Sara Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

On this page you can find detailed information on how to edit and add pages. Please read carefully for any questions before you begin editing, and read the editing rules.

This page is mainly for information on page structure, infoboxes, and other similar page creation tools. For basic editing and adding information, just follow the editing rules.

Should You Create a Page?

Before you create a page, keep these things in mind.

  • Is there already a page existing for this? If so, add your information to the existing page.
  • Do I have enough information to create a page for this? If you only have a few sentences and no picture, for example, it's probably not enough to make a page.
  • Is there somewhere I can link this page to? If your page doesn't exist but can't be linked anywhere, it will be a free-floating page that no one can find. Make sure it fits in somewhere, and to link it!

Main Horse Pages

When creating a new page, make sure first that the horse you want to add does not already have a page on this wiki. Some horses have multiple names depending on which country they were released in, so it is important to be completely certain the horse is not on the wiki before beginning.

To create a new page, there are a few things you must add, or may be able to add. Each of these headings can be created by formatting them as "Heading 2". Read each section carefully to see if it applies to your chosen horse. Each is listed in order as they should appear on the page. If your chosen horse does not have ample info to fit one of these categories, do not add any info. DO NOT simply leave it blank, as it clutters up the page unnecessarily. Also, DO NOT make up information about the horse. It is better to leave out a section then include fake information.

Infobox

This section is required. Each page must have an infobox. Each infobox is customizable to include only what information is necessary for each individual page.

When editing, you can add the following code to create an infobox.

Now let's fill these boxes out!

Images

The main image of the infobox must be the horse's ORIGINAL ART. Even if a horse gets "better" artwork in later series, please use their original artwork. If you can not find a clean file of the horse's original art, use the horse's card and crop the borders out.

The picture first has to be uploaded to the page, so feel free to insert an image first to the main page. Just be sure to delete it afterward. Once the photo is uploaded, type the name of the file completely in the image section (ex. horseimage.jpg <–type it exactly like that.) The image should then appear in the infobox.

Many horses have images of them in their stables or in Bella Sara Adventures. In order to include all of these images in the infobox, we have to add the following to the |image1 section:

|image1 =
    <gallery>
    image.png|Original Art
    image.png|Stables
    image.png|Adventures
    </gallery>

Replace the "image.png" with your images and you'll have a functioning infobox gallery!

Some horses have alternate "Stables" or card art designs. In that case, include the original with the above wording, and label the following images (placed after the original) as "Ver 2", "Ver 3", and so on:

|image1 =
    <gallery>
    image.png|Original Art
    image.png|Ver 2
    image.png|Ver 3
    image.png|Stables
    image.png|Adventures
    </gallery>

For the "Adventures" image, make sure that only the horse in question is in the image (no group shots).

Details

Type

This section is for describing what type of horse the horse in question is.

First, include the type that describes the horse's outward appearance (regular, air, water, animal, etc). If there is no doubt that a horse is a specific breed, add it after a colon. Then, if it applies, add any secondary type that may fit your horse (windwalker, fairy, etc). Be sure to put

<br>

between the two to add a space.

Regular Horse: Friesian
<br>
Windwalker

Gender

In this section, you should list only confirmed genders. If the gender is unknown, please leave it blank and the infobox will format it accordingly.

For confirmed genders, use one of the following:

  • Male
  • Female

Age

Ages should always be filled out. If a horse's age is not clear based on its artwork, please add one of the following with "Possibly" in front:

  • Adult
  • Colt (up to 4 years old)
  • Filly (up to 4 years old)
  • Foal (for unknown genders)

Some horses, such as Freja, appear at different ages throughout different card series. If this is the case, add the age and the appropriate series icons in parenthesis. Again, put

<br>

between the two to add a space.

Filly (danish gold, Second series, Foals)
<br>
Adult (baby bella)

Affiliations

Herd

This section should feature the icon and herd of the individual horse. To add an icon, add two left brackets, the name of the herd, and two right brackets. ADD A SPACE and add the herd by adding two left square brackets, the name of the herd, and two right square brackets. Adding an icon without space between it and text will result in formatting issues.

So, if you type this:

sunflower Herd Sunflower

You should get this:

If there is no herd, and no unofficial herd has been assigned, please use the category "Unaffiliated Horses".

Title

Some horses have various royal or non-royal titles that have been listed on their card. If there is a title for your chosen horse, list it exactly as it appears on their card.

Ex. Title:

Patron of Herd Pantheon

Buckaroo Scout

Herald of the Winter Festival

Do NOT list family or friend titles such as "Friend of Buttercup", "Brother of Orion", etc.

Family

Please list and link the names of all confirmed family members here. Do not list speculated family or friends. Place

<br>

between each family member. Place and label the family members as follows (grandparents, parents, aunt/uncle, siblings, brother/sister-in-law, niece/nephew, spouse, children, son/daughter-in-law, grandchildren):

Jillian (grandmother)
<br>
Jonathan (grandfather)

Animal Friend, Magical Friend, Treasure

All horses in the "Native Lights", "Magical Friends", and "Treasures". If there is an entry for your chosen horse, list it exactly as it appears on their card.

Please note that animal friend is exclusive to the Native Lights series and names of these animals are confirmed by stable code and should not be changed or speculated, magical friend is exclusive to Magical Friends series and is confirmed by Bellapedia entries, and treasure to the Treasures series and listed on the card.

Treasure: Valeryk Castle

If a horse only has ONLY ONE of the above affiliations, only use the appropriate section labeled "1":

|animal friend 1=
|magical friend 1=
|treasure 1=

If a horse has MORE THAN ONE affiliation to add, use the sections labeled "2".

|animal friend 2=
|magical friend 2=
|treasure 2=

These boxes will align themselves next to each other in the infobox to save space!

Unofficial Herd

You may also link to the horse's unofficial herd, or place the horse in an unofficial herd. Please do not link to the official herd, but instead only use the "Unofficial Herds" category and link to the page. You should also use

|unherd

instead of the regular herd heading.

Typing:

sunflower Herd Sunflower

Result:

Card Info

Now let's move on to adding important card information: the series a horse appears in and the card numbers. Depending on the horse, each series may require multiple icons and special formatting. Let's tackle this step by step!

How to Add an Icon

Adding a series icon is the same as adding a herd icon: add two left brackets, add the series' name, and add two right brackets:

Second series

Will result in:

How to Add Card Series with a Link

Similar to adding a link to a herd, you can link a card series by adding two left square brackets, the card series in quotation marks, and two right square brackets:

"Second Series"

This will result in:

"Second Series"

What if a Card Series is Exclusive to only a Few Countries?

Many horses, such as Bella herself, were introduced in different "country exclusive" series. For example, "Danish Silver" was only released in Scandinavia; "First Series" was only released in North America.; and "Mythology" was only released in Europe. To make it easy for viewers to tell if a horse's card series was only available in these exclusive countries, add a COUNTRY ICON after the card series.

The Country Icons are:

EU

European Release = used for European only releases, ex. Mythology

NA

North American Release = used for North American only releases, ex. First Series

SCAND

Scandinavian Release = used for all Danish series

DE

Germany= for German only releases (select cards from some series)

How to Add Card Numbers

To properly format the card numbers, add 8 "& nbsp;" (remove space between & and nbsp) and add the card number in parenthesis:

& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;(1/55)

Will result in:

        (1/55)

How to Add Card Rarity

After the card number, add the card rarity inside of the parenthesis as well. REMEMBER to add a space between icons and text.

The Rarity Icons are:

common

Common

rare

Rare

regular

Regular

promo

Promo

shiny

Shiny or Foil

What if a Card has a Different Number in Different Countries?

Some series give their card different numbers in different country releases. For example, Aleut is (P1/11 Promo) in North America, but elsewhere, he is (27/65 Rare). Use the Country Numbering Icons after the card number parenthesis to differentiate between each numbering.

The Country Numbering Icons are:

n a

North American Numbering = for North American numbering

inter

International Numbering = for all international release numberings

Putting It All Together!

Now let's put all of these elements together! If a card has a shiny counterpart as well, be sure to add it ON THE SAME LINE:

Danish silver "Bella Silver" SCAND

Second series "Second Series"

& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;(1/55 common) (S1/55 Shiny N a

& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;(1/55 regular) (S1/55 Shiny Inter

Danish Silver Icon "Bella Silver" Scandinavian Release

Second Series Icon "Second Series"

        (1/55 Rare) (S1/55 Shiny or Foil) North American Numbering

        (2/55 Regular) (S1/55 Shiny or Foil) International Numbering

Great job! Danish series like "Bella Silver" do not have card numbers, so you don't have to worry about card numbers for them. Now let's move on and see where we put these series and card numbers!

Introduced In

In the "Introduced In" section, add the first card series the horse appears in as well as the card number. Remember to remove the space between the & and nbsp:

First series"First Series" NA

& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;(1/55 common)

Will result in:

First Series Icon"First Series" North American Release

        (1/55 Common)

If you are unsure of what card series a horse appears in or if you are unsure what the card series' name is, please check the Card Series page.

Also Present In

In this section, list any further card series this horse may have appeared in, if any. List them in chronological order of release. Remember to use Country Icons to differentiate exclusive countries:

Second series "Second Series"

& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;(1/55 common) (S1/55 Shiny N a

& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;(1/55 regular) (S1/55 Shiny

Northern lights "Northern Lights" SCAND NA

& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;(1/55 regular) (S1/55 Shiny)

Ancient lights "Mythology" EU

& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;(1/55 regular) (S1/55 Shiny) Inter

Will result in:

Second Series Icon "Second Series"

        (1/55 Rare) (S1/55 Shiny or Foil) North American Numbering

        (2/55 Regular) (S1/55 Shiny or Foil) International Numbering

Northern Lights Icon "Northern Lights" Scandinavian Release North American Release

        (1/55 Regular) (S1/55 Shiny or Foil)

Ancient Lights and Mythology Icon "Mythology" European Release

        (1/55 Regular) (S1/55 Shiny or Foil)

Stable Code

Older series horses may have a stable code, which is a randomly generated set of numbers that link to their interactive stable on the Bella Sara website. If this is the case, make sure to add the numbers to the infobox. All horses with known stable codes currently have their codes on their pages, so there is no need to go searching for them.

Ex.

Stable Code: 123456

Card Art By

If known, please add the names of any artist who created card art for this horse. Actual names or online pseudonyms/usernames are also fine. If there is more than one artist, please add the artist name and the icons of the series they illustrated afterwards.

Ex.
Jane Doe Magical friendsBaby bella

Bob Doe Second series

Selling Price

Optionally, if you have sourcing for the average price (high or low) of a card, please let it using

|selling price =

If your information is unsourced, please do not add to this section.

Page Information

Inspirational Quote Box

A message box can be interested to the left side of the infobox. Copy and paste the main inspirational message in the quote box. The result should be something like this:

This is an inspirational quote.

Copy the below text and add the quote to the 'quote' section.

Quote

Place another

<br>

under the infobox.

Appearance

This section is required. Under this heading, please describe the appearance of this horse. Try to describe in detail what is seen in both card art and stable iterations of each horse.

Personality

This section may or may not have much info for your chosen horse. If there are instances in Bella Sara Adventures, Books, or other merchandise that describe the horse's personality, please include those. If not, you may choose to leave this section out, or may choose to guess what their personality is like, based on the horse's inspirational message and image. Either is acceptable, as long as the information could easily be discerned from the horse's message and image.

The Personality section should also be used for various other bits of information or facts about the horse. It can also be used to add canonical history of the individual horse.

Magical Gift

In this section, please describe what magical gifts this horse has. Some may be unclear, such as a horse that sparkles or shines, or others, like hippocamps, air horses, or windwalkers, may have clearly seen gifts. If your horse appears to have no magical gift (and many do not) then leave this section out. You may attempt to guess what the horse's magical gift may be, provided the picture or inspirational message support your guess.

History

If a horse has specific history or lore that cannot fit into the other sections, please place it here.

Relationships

In this section, list all friendships, family, or magical/animal friends your horse may have. List each name separately above the information and format it as "Subheading 1". Make the subheading name a link to the horse or magical friend. Write any information you have on the relationship underneath in normal paragraph text. Example:

Bob (This would be a link)

Horse A is related to Horse Bob. They have a good relationship and get along well.

The Name Game

This section is used to describe the meaning behind a horse's name. If you know of where their name came from, feel free to add it here.

Promo Info

If a card is a promo card, and you have info on where it came from, please write that here. If there is no info on the origins of a promo card, please leave the section out.

Bella Sara Adventures

If the horse appears in Bella Sara Adventures, you may add extra information related to this in its own section. Make sure to note where the horse appears on the map, and where and after what quest if applicable and available. You may also add their favorite food as well, or notable quotes from them in the game.

Inspirational Message

This section should apply for almost all horses, and should only include the inspirational message found at the bottom of the horse's card. The quote should be put in "quotation marks" and italicized.

If the horse has messages in other languages, please add those as well using the following tabbers format with the appropriate information:

If the horse has no message, please leave a description of why this is so (eg. "this horse was a stable exclusive", etc.)

If the horse's message is unknown. Please write "Unknown" in italics.

Quotes

In most cases, this section will remain blank. However, on occasion, a horse may have a quote attached to them, and you may add it here. Make sure to reference where the quote came from.

If there is more than one quote used, please use the following tabbers format:

Trivia

This section is for any fun facts or information that don't fit in other sections..

Galleries

Galleries may not be present on all pages, but should be added when any photo other than the main horse photo is being added. To add a gallery, you must go into visual editor, and click add gallery on the side of the page. You can also use following code to add one in Source Editing.

<gallery> Image.jpg </gallery>

You may then upload the photos you want to add by copying their name, uploading them with the gallery tool, or search for more photos uploaded to the wiki already.

You may add stable photos, card photos, extra art, and any other photos you find that show the horse. Please do not add fanart. Fanart should only be added to the community gallery page.

Galleries use the "tabbers" format to organize the images. If a horse only has images of their cards in one language with no foils, then no tabbers need to be added. However in all other cases, tabs should be grouped as followed under the "Cards" header.

  • Regular (these should be listed alphabetically, with English as the first tag)
    • English
    • French
    • Italian
    • Etc.
  • Foils
    • English
    • French
    • Italian
    • Etc.

Under a separate header, "Merchandise", add any type of merch images. Tabbers can be used to sort the merchandise if there are large amounts of images. If it is only a few images, tabbers is not needed.

Under another separate header, "Gallery", add another remaining images. No tabbers are needed. Examples include:

  • Artwork (for horses like Bella who have large amounts of artwork not included in infoboxes)
  • Others (for all other photos, including for horses who have only one or two artwork images)

For cards with no tab other than cards and their different languages, use the following code:

<tabber>
Regular=

For cards with more than one top tab, use the following code:

<tabber>
Regular=

|-|
Foils

</tabber>

Gallery photos should have captions based on the following formats:

  • Card Series name
  • Card Series Name - Version 2
  • Card Series Name Foil
  • Card Series Name - Language Foil
  • Stables
  • Bella Sara Adventures

For all other images, please write short, fitting captions to describe the image.

References

Any information that is not easily determined by card image and inspirational message MUST be linked in references.

To place a citation use the following code

. This will create a reference number for you on the page. To complete the reference code, you must also add a header at the end of the page for "references" and add the code

<references />

. This will create a spot for each reference to link back to.

EXAMPLE: Fact stated here. [1]

References HEADER here

  1. LINK EXAMPLE

Citations

Please use the following citation methods when writing your citation. (However, citation formatting is not too strict here, so really any clearly formatted citation is appreciated!)

To cite the source at the end of the page, you can use the following format. (1) Is for online sources, (2) is for books:

  1. SOURCE TITLE. (DATE CREATED if known). Retrieved DATE from LINK
  2. AUTHOR(S). (DATE) CHAPTER, (pp. XX) CITY, STATE: Publisher. Retrieved from link if applicable.

For a repeat sourcing with new page numbers, or chapter info, please use the following:

  1. SOURCE NAME (shortened is fine) Cont. (PAGE/CHAPTER)

Even if more information then this is known, it is not needed. If a section does not have the applicable info (ex. a book that has no link) then simply leave those sections out. They are not needed.

If a citation has little to no info, or comes from an image or screenshot, you can simply write the following.

  1. Information Retrieved from (ex. Bellapedia Screenshot, Text Screenshot, etc.)

OR

  1. Information determined by EXPLANATION HERE

For a citation from Bellapedia or a deleted source, but that is confirmed, please write:

  1. Information Retrieved from (Bellapedia) Circa. 20XX

OR

  1. Information Retrieved from XYZ Now Deleted Source

In-Text Citations

Additionally, if a source continues through two or more paragraphs, you only need to cite after the last paragraph UNLESS the paragraphs are separated by a header. If you wish to recite the same citation, there is no need to retype the info. Instead, change the beginning of your reference code from

<ref>

to

<ref name="NAME HERE">

and give your reference a name. From then on, you can type

to copy the same source in multiple places.

Gender Confirmation

If you are confirming a horse's gender and need to list a source or reason, please add it after the appearance section on the page. Please list "Gender Confirmed by (REASON/LINK)."

Navigation Bar

Once the reference section is finished, we must add the navigation bar! Copy the below text two putting a

<br>

between it and the "reference section."

If there is more than one series a horse is part of, add a

<br>

after the first horse in the list. If a series has both a North American and an International release add both North American Numbering and International Numbering before the corresponding horse. You can also add North American Release and European Release for horses featured in both Ancient Lights and Mythology (which share a logo.) If not, neither are necessary.

If a horse is no featured in a series, please write "No Series." In this section.

If a horse has no name before or after it in any section, please write "None."

Use the "horses" category/Horses A-Z to determine who goes in the last section. Card symbols are not necessary for this section.

Categories

After a page is complete, you may add categories on the bottom of the page. Add categories depending on the gender of the horse (ei. mare, stallion, or unknown gender), type (see Types of Horses), herd, other tags (ex. first generation, minis series, legendary horses), and artists. Place them IN THIS ORDER.

According to a collective decision by admins, the tags for card series, "confirmed gender," and herd positions are being removed. Please do not add them.

Unofficial Herds

Unofficial herds are a fun way to speculate on what herd unplaced horses may have been in. However, as this is not official information, there are some things to keep in mind.

Rules

  • If you add a horse to an unofficial herd, please add the category of Unofficial Herds, but do NOT add them on the actual herd page or category.
  • When you list a horse, you can place their herd on their page in their infobox with their other facts. However, please follow the rules listed above and do not link to the actual herd page.
  • After you have placed a horse or changed a horses unofficial herd, try to leave a comment on their page WHY you placed the horse in that herd.
  • If you place a horse with a mate or fillies into a herd, make sure their family members are all placed in the same herd that they are!
  • You can change an unofficial herd at any time! This is a fan project so no horse unofficial herds are fixed.

How to Place

Here are a list of questions you can ask to help you place a horse in a herd. If you choose to place a horse outside of these guidelines, that is fine as well, but again, you must leave a description of why you chose to do so.

  • Is the horse a pegasus/alicorn with feathered wings? (If yes, and no to all the other questions: Airistos )
  • Does the horse have a name that reminds you of the desert/Arabia? (If yes: Shahazar)
  • Is the horse a hippocampus - does it have a fish tail, or is it an actual seahorse? (If yes: Islandar)
  • Does the horse have a name that reminds you of winter, snow, and ice - but not the holidays? (If yes: Valeryk)
  • Is the horse named after a flower or plant? (If yes: Sunflower)
  • Is the horse named after a constellation, celestial object, deity, or phenomenon? (If yes: Starlight)
  • Is the horse fairylike with a name you can imagine being mentioned in A Midsummer Night's Dream? (If yes: Moonfairy)
  • Is the horse named after a Greco-Roman or Norse deity? (If yes: Pantheon)
  • Does the horse have a name that reminds you of the holidays or of various elements? (If yes: Elemyn)
  • Does the horse have a name that reminds you of the Wild West, or is the name of a Native American tribe? (If yes: Mustang)
  • If the answer to all of these questions is "no," the horse is in Herd Bellasara.

Places

There are many different places in North of North. Pages for places may be added and linked to the Places page. If you are unsure what herd territory they may go underneath, check the Maps page.

Infoboxes for these pages are titled "Places." Please fill out any information that you can.

Try to find a photo of the place if possible, describe the look or environment of the place, and provide any extra history or facts you can. DO NOT make up information. Only used confirmed information.

You may add headings based on any necessary distinctions you think are necessary. Try to limit the names to short descriptions (ex. The Castle, History, Gallery, etc.)

Humans and humanlike characters are also a big part of North of North. Human pages, or close to humans, should be linked on the Characters page.

Individual pages should include the following, in this order:

  • An infobox (template titled "Characters"): Please fill out any necessary information and follow the card series and card numbering information from Horses.
  • Appearance is required. Describe their features and all of the outfits for them you can find images of. For example, differentiate between their normal attire and the formal attire they wore to Bella's Ball if they attended.
  • Personality
  • Magical Gift (if any)
  • History if you know the person's background. No speculation.
  • Relationships. If the person has a steed or any other known family and friends put it here.
  • Inspirational Message
  • Quotes
  • Gallery
  • Add the category "Characters". You may also add the artist category, if known, and Forces of Evil for villains. Only these categories are needed.

In situations similar to The Valkyries, you can also add other headings if you feel they are needed. However, in almost all cases, the things listed above should be followed.

Please use citations if necessary on these pages.

Magical Friends

Please use the infobox template "Magical Friends." Fill out any relevant information, and follow the instructions for card numbers and card series from the Horse section.

Outside of an infobox, pages should also include:

  • Appearance
  • Personality
  • Magical Gift (if apparent or known)
  • Habitat (if known)

If there is other information or history to add, feel free to add it under whatever headings you feel are appropriate. Again, try to keep them short and relevant. Also, if the information is more related to the magical friend's horse friend, please include the info on the horse page, and not the magical friend page.

Categories should be the tag "Magical Friends", and the artists if known.

Please use citations if necessary on these pages.
