"Magical Friends"
The “Magical Friends” Series is the 7th Bella Sara set first introduced in June 2008[1] as an international release.[2]
This is the first series to include European-exclusive cards such as Anthea, Cordelia, and Chitra that could not be obtained in English releases. In Europe, there are no "common " or "rare " cards; instead, all cards are listed as "regular ". North America would not adopt this rarity system until "Treasures". [3] This series was also the first to include a checklist card, and the first set to not have energy item cards, replacing them with magical friends. [4]
Series Promotion
Prior to "Magical Friends" release in North America, Hidden City Games advertised the series through two different retailer promotions.
The Quest for the Lost Horse
The "Quest for the Lost Horse" event spanned from May 16th thru June 12th and featured four promo cards and one exclusive online horse, Falcha. Customers who bought Bella Sara cards at participating stores would receive one of the following cards depending on the date: Brigid on May 16 - 22nd, Notos on May 23 - 29th, Boreas on May 30th - June 6th, and Morongo on June 6 - 12th. Once all four horses were activated on the Classic Bella Sara Website, Falcha would be unlocked.

Postcards
A set of four 4x6" postcards were given out to customers at participating stores. The exact date of this promotion is unknown.
Story
The land of North of North has always been a magical place, but a new kind of magic emerged with the arrival of the goddess Sara. Many years ago, the wicked Feral tried to capture Bella's herd, but Sara bravely rescued them. Enraged, Feral killed Sara's parents as revenge and the youth fell into such an intense grief that she stopped aging and her tears formed Teardrop Lake.[5] The lake poured off into Teardrop Falls and the magical tears enchanted the various animals of North of North.
Dragons emerged from rose bushes, turtles flew through the air, and fiery fish swam the ocean deep. Both animals and horses could feel a new bond form between them and each traveled the land in search of the other. All across North of North, horses found their Magical Friend thanks to Sara's magic. Through a heartbreaking loss, unbreakable bonds were formed.[6]
Appearance
"Magical Friends" cards are deep purple with red ribbons and white sparkles around the border and a yellow sun in the upper left corner. Each card features a horse and their animal-like companion, or Magical Friend, from the world of North or North. [2]
In North America and Scandinavia, there is a total of 123 cards: 37 common cards, 37 rare cards, 12 friend cards, and 37 foil cards. The release also features 4 postcards and 1 exclusive online horse: Falcha. Each booster pack contains one checklist card. North American foil cards have a rainbow "Static" design along the card's background. [7]
In Europe, there is a total of 129 cards: 80 common cards, 12 friend cards, and 37 foil cards. However, the Italian release of the series has 4 exclusive promo cards, totaling 133 cards. [8] Checklist cards are also included in each booster. International shiny cards have a rainbow "Starburst" foil design along the card's background.
Boosters
"Magical Friends" cards come in booster packs that contain 1 checklist/rules card and 7 trading cards: 4-5 common cards, 1-2 rare cards, and 0-1 energy cards. Shiny cards are always placed at the end of the pack.
Boosters are available in single blister packs, booster boxes (36 packs), and Value Boxes (1 pack English, 5 packs Spanish).
